Nehemiah 7-10
/“They read … from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading” (8:8). Nehemiah and Ezra made the returned exiles listen to God’s Word for hours, so they would understand God’s design for life. What they learned of their history caused tears, but also hope. “But you are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love” (9:17). Hearing about God’s past kindness gave them courage to renew the covenant again (ch 10).
“You gave your good Spirit to instruct them …” (9:20). Knowing Israel’s history assures us that God desires to forgive, restore, and instruct us in how to live as His people.
