Psalm 88

“O LORD, why do you cast my soul away? Why do you hide your face from me?” (v14). The Scriptures teach us to pray with all our emotions, including lament and sorrow. The psalmist described his own experience as, “I am a man who has no strength … your wrath lies heavy upon me” (v7). He felt abandoned by his loved ones (v8,18) and distanced from God (v14). Yet like Hannah at the temple or Jesus in the garden, the psalmist poured out his heart: “But I, O Lord, cry to you” (v13).

“O Lord, God of my salvation …” (v1). God wants us to bring our sorrows and fears to Him, because He cares and is working for our good.
