Job 1-3

“There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil” (1:1).  Job was an upright man, but his “accuser” said that Job’s devotion to God was only because of his blessings (1:10).  Job’s relationship to God had not yet been tested, nor had his relationships with his wife (2:9) or friends.  Job’s troubles would serve not only to raise questions (Is God just?) but to draw him deeper into relationship with the Lord.

“I have no rest, but trouble comes” (3:26). We can be sure that when trouble comes, God wants to use it to draw us closer to Himself.
