II Corinthians 7
/“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death” (v10). Paul worried that his letter of correction to the Corinthians would cause a break in their relationship, but instead, he rejoiced that they were “grieved into repenting” (v9). They took Paul’s words to heart, changed their behavior, and showed through their treatment of Titus that they still loved and respected Paul. Paul’s letter was not full of harsh criticism which produces shame and anger (worldly grief), but truth spoken gently for the purpose of reconciliation.
“I have complete confidence in you” (v16). Rather than harsh attacks that destroy relationships, God’s desire is always for truth that leads to healing and reconciliation.
