Isaiah 11-12
/“There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit” (11:1). Isaiah prophesied that despite Israel’s human failures, a surviving branch, the Messiah, would fulfill God’s call to rule righteously and bless the nations. “The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding ...” (v2). This Savior-King will protect the meek and punish the wicked, and under His reign, “the wolf will dwell with the lamb” (11:6).
Jesus alone can bring peace to our world. “They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” (11:9).
