II Thessalonians 2
/“Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed ...” (v1-2). In Paul’s day as in ours, people were attracted to dramatic rumors and loved keeping others “alarmed” about the end times. But Paul said that things would happen in accordance with God’s timeline, and Jesus would be victorious. Our job is to “stand firm and hold to the traditions” (v15).
Constant “news” (from any source) stirs up anxiety. God calls us to rest in Jesus, “who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope” and wants to encourage us “in every good work and word” (v16-17).
