Isaiah 36-39
/“So now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the LORD” (37:20). Caught between the empires of Egypt and Assyria, King Hezekiah of Judah knew only God could save them. The Assyrians taunted the Israelites with the fact that they had conquered the “gods” of other nations (36:18-20); why should the God of Abraham be any different? But Hezekiah knew “they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone” (37:19).
“You have made heaven and earth” (37:16). Human help can’t protect us, defend us, or save us from our enemies. The Creator who loves us in our only salvation.
