Psalm 109

“Be not silent, O God of my praise! For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues” (v1-2). Attacked and slandered, the psalmist called on God to defend him and defeat his enemies (v7-20). Centuries later, the apostle Paul explained that our strongest enemies are not “flesh and blood,” but spiritual forces that tempt us to sin and tell us lies about ourselves and the Lord (Ephesians 6). In either case, we feel oppressed – “my heart is stricken within me” (v22) - and desperately need the Lord’s deliverance (v26).

Whether our battle is internal or external, against circumstances or our own thoughts, God is at our “right hand” (v31), fighting for our deliverance.
