Jeremiah 17-18

Jeremiah continues to paint pictures of those who trust in God and those who trust in themselves. Those who trust in themselves are like a "shrub in desert" who will not " see any good come" (17:6). For those who trust in God, we are like "tree planted by water" when the heat or drought comes we still flourish green and fruitful (v8).

Jeremiah cautions us because our "hearts are deceitful" (v9). The key to being a tree planted by water is to allow the Lord to "search our hearts" and "test our minds" (v10) Brutal honesty before Jesus leads to abundance of life.
