Jeremiah 25-28

“Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city become a desolation?” (27:17). God told the Israelites that He had given authority over their lands to the King of Babylon, and their exile would last 70 years. However, the false prophet Hananiah and others were feeding the Israelites lies, declaring that God had broken the power of the Babylonians and would return Israel to its glory in two short years (28:2-4,11). Jeremiah warned, “It is a lie they are prophesying to you ...” (27:10).

False prophets tell us what we want to hear, but God’s messengers call us back to His heart: “Do not go after other gods to serve and worship them” (25:6).
