Psalm 122
/“I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!” (v1). The psalmist rejoiced over the privilege of entering Jerusalem’s Temple, the “house of the Lord” At its best, Jerusalem was “a city that is bound firmly together” (v3), where earthly “thrones” (v5) and heavenly authority united the community. Ideally, “brothers and companions” celebrated festivals to God and lived in peace (v6). Israel’s golden days didn’t last very long, but they pointed to God’s desire to live among His people.
“Peace be within your walls” (v7). Instead of stones and pillars, we ourselves in Christ have become the holy Temple where He dwells by His Spirit (Ephesians 2).
