Psalm 1-3

“I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side (3:5-6). Like us, the psalmist had reasons to fear “on every side.” He confronted his own enemies (ch 3), the anger and chaos of the world (ch 2), and the temptations of his own heart (ch 1). Yet, knowing that God was King, he could rest at night. The Lord who is enthroned in heaven (ch 2) provides stability, fruitfulness, and watches over our ways (ch 1).

Rooted in Christ, we are like “trees planted by streams of water” (1:3). Fear does not control us, because the God who loves us sustains us daily.
