Matthew 1-2

“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him” (2:2). The Magi “from the East” traveled to visit and honor the “king of Jews,” and their visit troubled King Herod. The fact that a star guided them and that these foreigners brought gifts for the baby who fulfilled Messianic prophecies were signs to Herod that his authority was threatened. The Magi, however, were “overjoyed” (2:10) that the longings of their hearts had been fulfilled.

“They bowed down and worshipped him” (2:11). Worshipping Jesus the King means all other allegiances take second place, and we are overjoyed because his authority brings us peace.
