Genesis 1-5

“When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them” (5:1). Even after Adam and Eve were expelled from the garden and Cain killed Abel, the author of Genesis repeats that God’s original intent for humans was to make them in His image and to bless them. Outside of the garden, God showed mercy to Cain. God still loved the creation He had called “very good” (1:31), and though our terrible failures grieved Him, His loving purpose remained.

“Where are you?” (3:9). God does not leave us alone in our failure or rebellion. He actively searches for us, willing to forgive, heal, and bless us again.
