Jeremiah 16-18

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord ... they will be like a tree planted by the water” (17:7-8). Jeremiah declared that Judah had put their trust in themselves and in idols. They were looking for water in parched ground, instead of the living water offered by God (17:4). Their choice would lead them into exile, but God’s mercy continued. God promised to lead them out of Babylon, just as He led them out of Egypt (16:14-15).

“Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come ...” (16:19-20). When we don’t deserve it, God calls us away from idols to the strong refuge of His love.
