Luke 22-24

“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (24:32). Although many of the disciples had been with Jesus, experiencing the terrible events of his arrest, trial, and crucifixion, they struggled to understand and believe – even though the women saw the empty tomb, 24:2. But the morning of the resurrection, their “faces downcast” as they walked (24:17), they encountered the risen Christ. He taught them, broke bread with them, and encouraged them and later others.

“Peace be with you” (24:36). On our own, we have limited understanding and little ability to change. But when we encounter Jesus, alive by his Spirit, he opens our eyes and makes us new.
