Acts 5-7

“But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke” (6:10). Stephen’s fiercest opposition came not from outsiders or pagans but from insiders, members of a synagogue (6:9). They accused him of blasphemy and brought him before the Sanhedrin, the religious court. In response to their accusations, Stephen reminded them of their collective history - not their victories, but their failures. “You are just like your ancestors! You always resist the Holy Spirit!” (7:51).

“Lord, don’t hold this sin against them” (7:60). Like Stephen’s audience, it’s always easier to see the sins of outsiders rather than look at ourselves. But when we humble ourselves, we receive abundant grace.
