Genesis 8-10
/“Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth” (9:16). The post-flood world, like our own, was a much harsher place than God had intended his world to be. “Every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood” (8:21), and one of Noah’s sons immediately disrespected his father (9:20-24). Yet, knowing this, God gave humanity the rainbow as a sign of His covenant of mercy.
God’s covenant with “every generation to come” and all life on earth (9:12,17) declared that instead of starting over, He promised to remain involved with us. His loving kindness is greater than our sins.
