Genesis 11-13
/“Let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves ...” (11:4). The Tower builders wanted to “make a name” for themselves; they sought significance, power, fame and influence apart from their Creator. But God’s call to Abram declared “I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (12:1-3). God promised that as Abram believed and obeyed, he would be caught up in God’s own eternal purposes, and he would become a blessing to others.
“I will bless you” (12:2). Faith means that we stop trying to achieve “blessing” on our own terms and instead begin to trust the Lord. Obedience leads to true blessing for ourselves and others.
