I Samuel 16-18
/“David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him” (17:32). As David’s psalms attest, Goliath was just one of many ways the enemy tries to get men and women to “lose heart.” David, although not an experienced warrior, already knew from ordinary life that God was his defender (17:36). He, like Jonathan (18:1), was convinced that “the living God” was present and powerful, quick to save.
“It is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s” (17:47). Every battle we face – emotional, spiritual, physical - “is the Lord’s”. He only needs us to put our lives fully in his hands.
