I Samuel 13-15

“Perhaps the Lord will act on our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few” (14:6). Jonathan’s radical confidence in the Lord’s power contrasted with the uncertain faith of his father, King Saul. While Saul made decisions based on anxiety (13:12) or his own ideas (ch 15), Jonathan risked everything based on a solid belief in God’s strength. When Jonathan fell under a “curse” (due to his father’s thoughtless vow), the Israelites defended him, standing with the man of faith (14:45).

“See how my eyes brightened when I tasted a little of this honey!” (14:29). Like refreshing honey, our hearts brighten when we trust and live by the Lord’s strength, and not our own.
