I Samuel 11-12

“I am going to confront you with evidence before the Lord as to all the righteous acts performed by the Lord for you and your ancestors” (12:7). Although God was willing to use the new king Saul to help his people, Samuel explained why asking for a king had been wrong. God was Israel’s king and deliverer (12:12). God himself rescued them from Egypt and brought them to Canaan. Samuel warned them not to turn to other sources of power: “they can do you no good, nor can they rescue you” (12:21).

“Consider what great things he has done for you” (12:24). We put our trust in the Lord rather than worldly powers because, while we were sinners, God did “great things” for us in Christ.
