John 17
/“I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them” (26). Jesus’ prayer clarified that he was inviting his followers into the tight circle of divine love. The Father loved the Son “before the creation of the world” (24), and he sent the Son into the world to extend that love to us. Through Jesus, we are forgiven, re-united with the Father, and indwelt by the Spirit: “I in them and you in me” (23).
“As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world” (18): Jesus’ reconciling mission continues through us.
