Joshua 18-20

“How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord ... has given you? (18:3). God had given the land to the Israelite tribes, but he expected them to “take possession” of their inheritance. Their borders were determined by lot: “Joshua then cast lots for them ... he distributed the land to the Israelites according to their tribal divisions” (18:10). The Levites, however, had no land of their own, “because the priestly service of the Lord is their inheritance” (18:7).

God calls us to spiritually “take possession” of our great inheritance of grace. Actively, rather than passively, with the Spirit’s help we cultivate the righteousness, joy, and peace of life in Jesus’ kingdom.
