Joshua 15-17

“You are numerous and very powerful ... though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out” (17:17-18). The double tribe of Ephraim and Manasseh needed more territory, but they worried about the resident Canaanites with iron chariots and needed Joshua’s urging. By contrast, Caleb and his son-in-law Othniel boldly took extra land, no matter that the occupants were the fearsome “sons of Anak” (15:13-19). Caleb’s daughter Aksah confidently asked for a field and more (15:19).

“Give me also springs of water” (15:19). When our focus is on God’s mission and power, and not our own limitations, we can step out in faith. “Ask, and it will be given you” (Matt 7:7).
