Judges 6-8

“Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” (6:14). God called Gideon “mighty warrior” (6:12), before Gideon had yet won a battle. Gideon needed multiple proofs - the destruction of idols and the “fleece test” - before trusting God enough to fight. God, on the other hand, needed only 300 men to defeat the enemy’s thousands (7:8). He chose to use uncertain Gideon and a downsized army to show that it was divine power, not human, that saved Israel.

“I am the least in my family” (6:15). God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness (II Corinthians 12:9). He calls us to trust that his power in us and through us is enough.
