Genesis 23-25
/“Make sure that you do not take my son back there” (24:6). Not wanting Isaac to marry from “among the Canaanites,” Abraham instructed his servant to return to Abraham’s old home to find a wife from his own people. However, this request had to fit in with the deeper principle of God’s covenant: the woman must be willing to leave her home, because the future of Abraham’s family was in the Promised Land. The search for a wife was important, but God’s covenant with Abraham came first.
“Do not take my son back there” (24:8). When we say yes to following Jesus, everything in our lives begins to point in his direction. Every decision flows from our primary commitment to him.
