Psalm 38-39

“I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin” (38:18). The psalmist confessed that his choices had led to misery; he was overwhelmed by the heavy burden of guilt (38:4) and even physically was falling apart (38:5-8). He called out to the Lord: “Come quickly to help me!” (22), knowing that God alone could forgive and heal him. The psalmist had realized that life without God was meaningless. “In vain” everyone rushed around trying to achieve their goals (39:6), but their days on earth were fleeting, “a breath” (39:4-5).

“But now, Lord, what do I look for?” The pursuit of wealth and the world’s pleasures only leads to misery and emptiness. “My hope is in you” (39:7).
