Psalm 59
/“Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me” (1). The psalmist called God his “fortress” – his secure, protective refuge against the forces confronting him. Like us, the psalmist often felt attacked without cause; he needed God’s constant help against the enemies who threatened him (3-7). Whether the enemies were physical or spiritual, whether personal or part of the general chaos of the world, the psalmist knew he was not strong enough to fight alone; God provided the strength he needed (9).
“You, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely” (9-10). Other supports may crumble and we may fail ourselves, but God’s strength is unshakeable. We can rely on him.
