Psalm 58
/“Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge people with equity? No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth” (1-2). The psalmist cried out over the terrible injustice he saw on earth, especially the misuse of power among “rulers”. He saw that those entrusted to lead others, those with privilege and responsibility, were using their advantages to harm instead of help. He turned his anger into prayer, asking God to arise as Judge and to punish the wicked.
“Surely there is a God who judges the earth” (11). Nothing passes by unnoticed in God’s sight. We can trust that he sees, he cares, and he will put things right.
