Psalm 40
/“I waited patiently for the Lord ... He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire” (1). In the “mud and mire” of his troubles, the psalmist waited patiently because he trusted God’s character: He is the God who hears and rescues us. We respond in gratitude and trust, giving him our obedience. “I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart” (8). We sing a “new song” (3) every time, and we tell others of his “saving acts” (9).
“He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand” (2). When everything else is uncertain and changing, God is the unshakeable Rock of our existence.
