Psalm 39

“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is” (4). The injustices of the world caused the psalmist to grow hot with anger, yet he brought his frustration and questions to the Lord (1-2). He saw the way humans pay attention to all the wrong things; “in vain they rush about” trying to get satisfaction from their short time on earth, while ignoring God and his purposes. Instead, the psalmist longed to live differently – humble and dependent on the Lord (7-11).

“My hope is in you” (7). Our lives are meaningful when we acknowledge God as King – our short years find significance in his purposes, his understanding, his justice and mercy.
