Jeremiah 10-25

“They have followed other gods to serve them” (11:9-10). Although Israel had access to the Maker of all things (10:16), they followed worthless idols. Jeremiah tried to call them back to the Law: “Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place” (22:3). However, other prophets told people what they wanted to hear, spreading “the delusions of their own minds” (14:14). Sadly, Jeremiah warned that they would be conquered by Babylon and exiled for 70 years (ch 25).

Relying on worldly power and idols led God’s people astray. But the one who trusted God was like “a tree planted by the water ...it never fails to bear fruit” (17:8).
