Psalm 122

“I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord” (1). For God’s people in both the Old and New Testaments, there is no greater joy than serving and worshipping him together. Jerusalem, symbol of God’s presence among us, is a city “closely compacted together” where Israel’s tribes unite to praise him (4). We pray for Jerusalem’s peace for the sake of our “family and friends” (8), because they need the joy and security of being part of God’s family.

“For the sake of the house of the Lord, I will seek your prosperity” (9). As we pray not just for ourselves but for our spiritual family, God dwells among us by his Spirit (Ephesians 2:22).
