Psalm 123

“I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy” (1-2). The psalmist was enduring “contempt” and ridicule from those around him (3-4), and he could not protect himself. Like a servant dependent on his master, the psalmist looked to the Lord in desperation, needing help in his time of trouble.

“Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us” (3). When we face the relentless pain and chaos caused by the brokenness of our world (4), God’s mercy brings the comfort and deliverance we need.
