Psalm 141

“Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds” (4). The psalmist realized that the most dangerous trap (9) of a difficult situation was the temptation to be drawn into ungodly attitudes, words, and actions. When faced with conflict, “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord” (3). Rather than getting entangled in slander or gossip or, worse, the desire to strike back, the psalmist asked God to help him endure the crisis and “pass by in safety” (10).

“But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord” (8). Jesus is our point of reference, not the world. He wants to lead us through trouble without harm to our souls.
