Psalm 140
/“Rescue me, Lord ...” (v1). The psalmist taught Israel to cry out for help to God, unashamedly, saying, “Rescue me, protect me, keep me safe, hear my cry for mercy” (1,4,6). Faced with our weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and circumstances outside our control, the psalmist tells us to call upon our “strong deliverer” (7). He “shields” us in the day of battle (7) and protects us from traps and dangers we cannot see (5). As God’s people, we can trust that he walks with us through our troubles and defends us against the enemy.
God “upholds the cause of the needy” (12). When we lay down false pride and call out for help, he is quick to surround us with his care.
