I Samuel 27-28

“Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy?” (28:16). King Saul was desperate for a sign from God. The prophet Samuel was dead, so Israel was without a spiritual leader, and Philistines were preparing to attack. King Saul “was afraid; terror filled his heart” (28:5). In desperation, he sought out a forbidden medium who made contact with Samuel’s spirit. But nothing changed: Saul still faced defeat and judgment (28:29).

“God has departed from me” (28:15). In light of King Saul’s behavior (28:18), searching for extraordinary signs was useless. God’s ways are clear, and his desires our obedience.
