Nehemiah 10-13

“I came to Jerusalem and learned about the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah ...” (13:7). Nehemiah’s passion was helping the Israelites follow God’s law. He was horrified to find that a priest had set up a room in the Temple for Tobiah, a non-Israelite leader who violently opposed the Temple’s reconstruction (6:1). Nehemiah cleansed the room, and he also confronted the Israelites about mixed marriages, not tithing, and working on the Sabbath.

God was calling His people to serve Him fully, without making compromises with the Babylonians or their pagan neighbors. We can only serve one Master.
