II Chronicles 20-27
/After the reign of two good, imperfect kings, Asa & Jehoshaphat, the royal family turns away from God and turns on itself by murder and betrayal. Only when the priest Jehoiada protects young prince Joash (ch23) is there a glimmer of hope and temple worship is restored (ch24). The next two kings, Amaziah (25) and Uzziah (26) continue the pattern of Asa & Jehoshaphat, good overall but with major flaws.
It is easy to wonder how these good kings failed so greatly. These imperfect kings remind us that we too are “prone to wander.” May that not cause us to fret, but rather cause us to go boldly to the true King who sits on the throne of grace (Heb 4).
