Titus 1

“He must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled,upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message ...”(8). The elders and overseers (6-7) who would lead the church in Crete were heldto a high standard in both character and attention to the Word. These wise people were supposed to model Christian living, and they also were called to “encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it” (9). Their counsel wouldhelp believers reject false doctrine, like the circumcision requirement (10,14).

What we believe and how we live reinforce one another. God calls us to grow in the “knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness” (1).
