Psalm 57

“I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed” (1). The psalmist lived through many years of danger and threats in which he learned to seek refuge in God. He found God’s “love and faithfulness” to be evident in the midst of his worst problems – even when pursued by ruthless enemies (4). He felt he lived “in the midst of lions” (4), yet he could say his heart was steadfast due to God’s presence (7).

“I will praise you, Lord, among the nations ... for great is your love” (9-10). Our testimony is not that life is perfect, but that God loves us and gives us refuge in “the shadow of his wings”.
