Psalm 63

“On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night” (6). Awake in the middle of the night, the psalmist thirsted for the Lord’s presence (1). Faced with real dangers and pressures (9-10), he confessed his need and dependence on the Lord: “I cling to you” (8). While chasing human desires often ends in pain, the psalmist knew that God’s presence only brings peace. “Your love is better than life” (3). Protected within God’s care, the psalmist could sing, despite his troubles (7).

“I will be fully satisfied as with the riches of foods” (5). Only the Lord can calm and satisfy our deeply thirsty souls. His love is better than life.
