Psalm 37

“Do not fret ... trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture” (1-3). The psalmist reminds us that we cannot control the events swirling around us or other peoples’ choices (7-9). However, we can choose to obey the Lord and to “be still” as we wait for him to bring deliverance and peace. It may seem that godless people are prospering, but their efforts will “go up in smoke” (20), while those who cling to the Lord will experience his faithfulness (23-28).

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him” (23). When we are surrounded by trouble and uncertainty, God himself is our stability and ultimate joy.
