Psalm 126
/“Restore our fortunes, Lord, like streams in the Negev” (4). Although the destruction of Jerusalem and exile to Babylon seemed final, God brought His people back to their land. They learned to call out to the One who restores what sin has broken. Often human failure or disaster seems so final that we can hardly believe God’s deliverance: “When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed” (1). Yet with God, our tears become “songs of joy” (5).
“The Lord has done great things for us” (3). Through the cross, our exile was overcome and God ‘restored our fortunes’, calling us home as His sons and daughters. He redeems and restores all our hopes.
