Hebrews 8

“By calling this covenant ‘new,’ he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear” (13). Hebrews says that the laws and rituals of the tabernacle/temple, the old covenant, were a “copy and shadow” of the work of Christ (5). Jesus is the One whose death truly covers sin, and He brings us into God’s presence as our perfect High Priest. The Old Testament prophets looked forward to the “new covenant” that the Messiah would bring: a relationship with God written on hearts and minds (8-12).

“The new covenant is established on better promises” (6). We don’t have to look back or look elsewhere for our spiritual needs. Through Christ, we belong to God (8).
