Isaiah 13-14

“Sure, as I have planned, so it will be” (14:24). Through Isaiah, God reassured the Israelites that the crushing force of the Babylonian empire could not change His plans to rescue them and, through them, bless the world. After years of Babylonian exile, the Israelites would return home (14:1-8), and the Babylonian king who boasted, “I will make myself like the Most High” would himself be conquered (14:14). God promises were mightier than the chaos of the world (and Israel’s own sin).

“The Lord has established Zion, and in her his afflicted people will find refuge” (14:32). Whatever powers may be shaking our lives or the world, through Jesus, God has provided for us a sure, permanent refuge (Hebrews 12:22).
