Isaiah 11-12
/“A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse ... The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him” (11:1-2). Isaiah prophesied that Israel would fail to obey God and thus endure judgment. However, he declared that God’s Chosen One would come one day to “raise a banner for the nations” and gather Israel’s exiles (11:12). This Leader with the Spirit of wisdom, might, and righteousness (11:2,5) would call people to forsake their sins, one by one, and embrace the coming kingdom where “they will neither harm nor destroy” (11:9).
“With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation” (12:3). Israel’s failure, like our own, did not stop the Messiah’s work. He came to bring water to our thirsty souls.
