I Corinthians 6-8
/“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” (6:19). Although Greek philosophy emphasized the ‘soul’ (the invisible ‘self’) and devalued the body, Paul taught the believers that human bodies are sacred. Following Jesus is not just a matter of right belief; what we do in our bodies, from marriage to eating and drinking (ch7-8), all matter to the Lord.
Our bodies are “members of Christ himself” (6:15). He took on human flesh so that he could redeem us and help us live for him, bodies and souls together.
