Deuteronomy 18-24

“When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands” (24:19). God commanded the Israelites to live with the awareness of his presence among them. Their choices were not about personal comfort or maximum profit; the way they handled their marriages, work, and common life were intended to reflect God’s justice and compassion within that ancient culture (ch 21-22).

“The Lord is their inheritance” (18:2). Because everything we have comes from the Lord, our daily choices concerning family and work belong to him, too.
